The first international film festival in Laxmipur, Noakhali is due to start from next year. The festival titled “Global Youth Film Festival Lakshmipur” will run for three days from January 10 to 12 at the Town Hall Auditorium of the town. Films will be accepted and screened in six categories. Already 2047 film from 102 countries have been submitted to the jury board for getting screened during the festival. The jury panel includes filmmaker Amitabh Reza Chowdhury, actress Rokeya Prachi and Shariful Alam Bhuiyan, founder chairman of the Department of Television and Film Studies at University of Dhaka. Nearly fifty young filmmakers from over the world are expected to get a screen in the festival.
Cinema Bangladesh film society and social organisation Shunno will be organising the festival. In parallel with the festival a workshop will also be held where Bangladeshi young and juvenile filmmakers will get a chance to converse with international film fraternity for three days. In the evening of the final day of the festival prizes will be given to the best films in the designated six categories. Organisers claim that everything has become centered around Dhaka, thus it has become an imperative to spread the air beyond Dhaka.
